Community-Based Participatory Research: What is it and how can an AHEC get involved?DESCRIPTION
One of the AHEC Innovative Program Opportunities in the HRSA grant requirement is to coordinate community-based participatory research with academic health centers, and facilitate rapid flow and dissemination of evidence-based health care information. Through understanding how CBPR differs from conventional research, AHECs may be more inclined to participate in research that uses CBPR. We will highlight several examples from Central MA AHEC and UMass Medical Schools collaboration.

Teaching the Social Determinants of Health through community based, interprofessional education: Opportunities for AHECsDESCRIPTION
Through a two-week intensive, MassAHECs program office and centers provide interprofessional groups of health professions students a community based learning experience on social determinants of health. MassAHEC Network has helped teach interprofessional groups of learners to assess a population's health, its influential determinants, relevant disparities, and opportunities for intervening through advocacy, while providing a service to the community.
